Dirt Flight, instant aerial imagery
Aerial 3D view of a rural Iowa land parcel with the boundary outlined

Aerial photos of land in Iowa.

Send an Iowa APN and the county it sits in. Dirt Flight builds the boundary from that county's own parcel records and renders the full aerial pack in about ten minutes. A quarter in Sioux County and a timbered forty in Clayton County come back the same way, in the same ten minutes.

The short answer
Updated August 2026

Dirt Flight is not a drone photography service. To get aerial photos of an Iowa parcel, enter the county and the APN. The boundary is drawn from county assessor parcel data and the pack renders in about ten minutes: an outlined top down, four cardinal 3D views, an 18 second orbit video and a contour map. Nobody flies out, so there is no travel charge, and all 99 counties render.

Why Iowa is different

Almost all of it is worked, so the exceptions matter.

In Iowa the question is rarely whether ground is farmable. It is how much of the tract is not: the waterway, the timbered draw, the corner the terraces cut off, the acres along the creek that flood. Those are the acres that move a price, and they are the ones a road photo hides.

County assessor parcel data is what the boundary is drawn from, so coverage here is complete rather than partial. A tract in Adams County renders in the same ten minutes as one in Scott County, and terraces, waterways and field roads read clearly from above.

Boundaries are approximate, from public parcel data, and are not a survey.

One APN. Everything below.

One parcel, one APN. Terraced on the south slope, a grassed waterway through the middle, and gravel along two sides.

Where Iowa land actually trades.

These are the ones land buyers ask for most, each with its own page.

Do not see your county? Every one of the 99 renders. Send the APN and it comes back the same ten minutes.

Iowa questions

Asked by people selling Iowa ground.

Which Iowa counties can you do?

Send the county and the APN and we go straight to that county's own parcel records. Coverage varies: some states publish one statewide layer, others leave it county by county. If yours is one where the records are not public, you hear it from us before anything is charged.

How much does a drone photographer cost for a rural Iowa listing?

Dirt Flight is not a drone photography service, so this is not our fee. An Iowa pilot quotes the shoot plus the drive, and a tract two counties out costs more than one in town. Dirt Flight renders the parcel from licensed aerial imagery and public elevation data instead of sending anyone up in the air, so there is no travel charge, no scheduling and no weather day.

Will terraces and waterways show up on the imagery?

They do. Terrace lines, grassed waterways, tile outlets and field roads all read from above, and the contour map shows how the ground falls across the tract. On Iowa row crop that is most of what a buyer wants to see.

Can I use this for an auction bill and a mailer?

That is what most Iowa sellers use it for. The pack comes sized for listing sites and for print, and Paydirt adds the full resolution files so the outlined top down holds up at auction-bill size.

How recent is the imagery on an Iowa parcel?

Expect one to three years, and check the date stamped on the pack. A terrace built or a waterway seeded this spring will not appear until the next flight. The elevation data behind the contour map runs on its own refresh cycle.

What exactly comes back for an Iowa APN?

One outlined top down, four cardinal 3D views, one 18 second orbit video, a contour map, a context map and a parcel info sheet. Step up to Paydirt for road frontage views, infrared, a social kit and the full resolution files. Iowa sellers mostly put the top down on the auction bill and the orbit in the ad.

Got an Iowa parcel under contract?

Send the county and the APN. If your invite is not open yet we will still look at the first one by hand.
