Dirt Flight, instant aerial imagery
Aerial 3D view of a rural North Dakota land parcel with the boundary outlined

Aerial photos of land in North Dakota.

Send a North Dakota APN and the county it sits in. Dirt Flight builds the boundary from that county's own parcel records and renders the full aerial pack in about ten minutes. A quarter in Cass County and grass in Billings County come back the same way, in the same ten minutes.

The short answer
Updated August 2026

Dirt Flight is not a drone photography service. To get aerial photos of a North Dakota parcel, enter the county and the APN. The boundary is drawn from county assessor parcel data and the pack renders in about ten minutes: an outlined top down, four cardinal 3D views, an 18 second orbit video and a contour map. Nobody flies out, so there is no travel charge, and all 53 counties render.

Why North Dakota is different

Flat, until it is not.

North Dakota tracts are sold by the quarter, and most of the difference between two quarters is water: sloughs, potholes, the alkali low spot that never makes a crop. Out west it becomes badlands relief instead. Neither shows from a section road.

County assessor parcel data is what the boundary is drawn from, so coverage here is complete rather than partial. A quarter in Sheridan County renders in the same ten minutes as one in Cass County, and sloughs, potholes and saline ground read plainly from above.

Boundaries are approximate, from public parcel data, and are not a survey.

One APN. Everything below.

One parcel, one APN. Cropped on three sides, two sloughs through the middle, and a gravel section road along the west line.

North Dakota questions

Asked by people selling North Dakota ground.

Which North Dakota counties can you do?

Send the county and the APN and we go straight to that county's own parcel records. Coverage varies: some states publish one statewide layer, others leave it county by county. If yours is one where the records are not public, you hear it from us before anything is charged.

How much does a drone photographer cost for a rural North Dakota listing?

Dirt Flight is not a drone photography service, so this is not our fee. A North Dakota pilot quotes the shoot plus the drive, and a quarter three hours west of Bismarck is a full day for one tract. Dirt Flight renders the parcel from licensed aerial imagery and public elevation data instead of sending anyone up in the air, so there is no travel charge, no scheduling and no weather day.

Will sloughs and potholes show up?

They will, which is the main reason sellers here order it. Sloughs, potholes, cattail rings and the white alkali edges all read from above, and the contour map shows the closed basins. It shows what the imagery saw on its date, not a wet-year worst case.

Can you cover several quarters in one image?

Yes. Adjoining parcels entered together merge into one boundary, so a farm assembled from six quarters renders as a single outline rather than six separate images.

How recent is the imagery on a North Dakota parcel?

The licensed coverage for North Dakota is usually one to three years old, and every pack carries its render date. A slough drained or a new approach off the section road will not appear until the next flight. Anything that changed since the flight will not be in it.

What exactly comes back for a North Dakota APN?

The outlined top down, four cardinal 3D views, an 18 second orbit video, a contour map, a context map and a parcel info sheet, sized for listing sites and for print. Paydirt adds road frontage views, infrared, a social kit and the full resolution files. North Dakota sellers use the merged outline and the top down on the sale sheet.

Got a North Dakota parcel under contract?

Send the county and the APN. If your invite is not open yet we will still look at the first one by hand.
